Friday more primer hit the walls, I received another lovely massage, and I went and walked Sam at midnight.

Today at the computer I started the 10th Century in my genealogy process.  I've got the leaves down around 500 now.

Ingaborg said today's massage completed the commitment.  I'm thinking that's off one or two but won't press the issue.  She left another bag of bears with me; I'll try get them ready for Kris Kinder next weekend but she acknowledged it was kind of late giving me an 'out' if they're not done.
Tuesday I put 11 hours into the JG project, finishing up at 5am.  Stayed up long enough to pick Leofwyna up from work since I'd borrowed her van that night so didn't fall into bed until 8am Wednesday morning.  I set the alarm though for 1pm so I could get myself back onto a normal sleep schedule right away.  I did get to Wednesday moot, using her van yet again, where we discussed WWM, Herdmaster, Cattle Raids, Crown Tourney and what all else.  Back at home I managed to stay up until midnight whereupon I fell into bed and slept past 10am which felt really GOOD!!!  Now I've just got to get an invoice sent off to JG and hope the check comes fairly promptly.

I might also mention that while at JG's playing with the dogs put the notion of dogsitting into Chris' head.  I told her about the shar-pei's and I'm hoping something might come of that eventually.
Sunday morning JG wanted me to come confer with him about the format for this grant transcription.  Once that was done I treated myself to lunch and a session of computer at the library to read email and stuff.  Back at home I put in 9 hours on the transcription, heading to bed at 3am.  I'll also mention here that JG called three times during the evening.  During one of the phonecalls an appointment was made to meet at VI to pass on an up-dated hard-copy at 9:30.  I thought he meant this for Monday morning; we both laughed during the last phonecall when we realized we'd been talking at cross purposes.  He brought me a piece of pie when he brought the hard-copy on over Sunday night.

Monday I called to get the car in.  I'll drive it over tonight when Leofwyna can bring me back and they'll look into it tomorrow.  Made a quick run for lunch and picked up a pork roast to put in the crock pot with an Apple Butter BBQ sauce for supper.  I put 10 hours on the transcription, talking to JG on the phone four times and late this afternoon he brought over the final updated hard-copy.  One portion down and one to go; I finished with it about 1am.

I'm certainly learning a lot about John Steinbeck, author, that I didn't get in school.  I don't think I ever read any of the books but I've heard about them and seen some of the movie adaptations.  I've always learned a lot doing the various production transcriptions so I'm glad to be able to keep my hand in this way.
Friday the car showed me a low coolant light again.  It's only been a couple weeks since I put $300 into it for that very reason so Monday I'll be calling the garage about it.  I'm almost afraid to consider what else might crap out around here.

I got the things done Friday that I needed to have ready for Saturday and we spent that day at 12th Night.  We didn't get onto the feast list so a bunch of us went to Katie's Greek Restaurant for supper afterward.  Leofwyna accidently locked the keys in the van at Katie's so the whole group waited with us in the parking lot for the locksmith to come and open it.

Sunday I'd only just gotten up when a call rang in from JG about the transcription; I headed over to his place to pick up a hard-copy so I won't be limited to city library time schedule.  I'm back to keying on his wife's number 3 laptop and I'll sit up late working on this... and finish up sometime late Monday, hopefully.

During the drive up and back Saturday, Leofwyna expanded on her summer camping plans this year.  I had to rein in some of her ideas to leave room for my rummage sale in July.  Gotta hang on to some time for prepping and to keep up in the garden.  Sounded like she was thinking about half a dozen short trips in addition to my time at Lilies.  I held her back to three I think; one in late May, one during the summer and one in mid September.   Of course, all this is subject to change if I find work.
Wednesday I got an email from JG for some work.  I stopped by his place on the way to A&S to pick up his laptop to work on.  I didn't want to commit to this job with my set up as I'm not sure it won't act up.  Learned the deadline for this is next Wednesday; nothing like the last minute boyyo!  I told him I had things to do to be ready for Saturday's event and something already on the schedule for Sunday, too.  So I've dedicated Monday-Tuesday to his job.
Did a yardwork session Tuesday, getting the entire yard mowed in one go and turning over most of the dill bed where I'll plant the tomatoes this year.  All eight potato plants are thriving, brocolli is coming right along, half the spinach was used in the fowl pastries and the first flush of radishes is nearly gone. The lettuce has bolted already and needs to come out this week so beans can go in.  Still gotta buy a couple tomato plants to put in between rainstorms; this has been a long wet spring.  The basement has remained (so far) blessedly dry... thank Gale!

I got the first third of the fowl pastries made up Thursday evening for the JAV privey tent.  I'd asked Leofwyna to make up the pastry for me again; it definitely turns out better when we do it this way.  This time I didn't bother with the little tool and they went considerably more quickly and smoothly.  They also turned out to be somewhat smaller, a true bite size.  This batch turned out particularly well with the lavender flavor being subtle but definitely there.  I'll make up the other two-thirds next week to turn in Thursday at the last pre-cook.

JG called this week. Apprently he's been let go, too.  One has to wonder are there any producers at NET any longer.  Anyway, he sounded me out for some work in September but he wanted bargain rates.  Since I haven't had any transcription in more than a year and he is just getting started I conceded.  I just won't be quit as thorough as I normally would be and I told him this would be the case.  Part of my decision is the subject is Jun Kineko again and I'm interested in the art world discussions that will be involved.

JAV this weekend turned out well for a wonder.  It rained Thursday and Friday so we were forced to do our set up Saturday morning before the event.  I got there earlier than I normally would so we could set up my sunshade for the steel fighters.  There was a good turn out of help and set up of the other canvas was going well.  I ended up resting on the baronial sunshade matting after 10am for awhile.  Near noon I helped their excellencies with their dress, lacing and tying points and pinning on ruffs.  Once I'd gone up the hill to change I settled in as lady in waiting most of the afternoon, with intermitant asides doing storytelling with random kids and catching the occasional cat nap while sitting quietly on my bench.  The day stayed clear with cool breezes; a late afternoon storm passed west and north of us which kept the temperatures nice for us.  I'd successfully husbanded my energy as I was able to help take down the steelfighters' sunshade and get myself loaded up.  Fortunately the ground had dried enough we could drive in for the load up.

And yes, a great deal of time is still being spent in genealogy minutia.
WEDNESDAY

This afternoon I sat down to get Halftroll's tunic done, thinking it would take 2-3 hours.  Six hours later It was done but for a little hand sewing to control the tucks on the border trim around the hem.  I keep forgetting how long those seams are on his oversized tunics and since they're all french finished that doubles everything.  It does look good though, esp. with the narrow trim finishing the neckline trim.  To bad there wasn't enough of it to put on the armband borders too, but oh well.

I was late getting out for the A&S moot; got there just in time to join in the last bit of chatter before the library closed.  In hindsight, since Halftroll wasn't there, I could have skipped it.  I guess I'll just deliver it all to Gyda next week at moot.

Back at home we watched the Survivor we'd taped... huzzah, they voted Russel out.  Too bad he'll probably make a comeback.  There's not very many who'll be able to defeat him at Resurrection Isle.

I'm still seriously involved in dealving through the Ancestry.com site following my leads.  There's still lots of this to be done.

SUNDAY-MONDAY-TUESDAY

I spent a quiet day Sunday thinking Leofwyna would want to do something this evening.  Turned out she was on an add shift so I had a quiet evening too.  Spent a great deal of time on the computer... more genealogy mostly, some job serches.  Got the totes sorted and stacked in my bedroom; there's still lots in the living room to be sorted and priced for a rummage sale or put back (somewhere, somehow)  in my room.

WEDNESDAY

Sewed up Halftroll's linen pants and cut out his tunic during the afternoon.  Delivered the pants at the social moot and loaded the loom for another piece of narrow trim.

THURSDAY

It snowed all afternoon so we didn't go out at all; we got four inches.  After "beanies and weins" for supper Leofwyna suggested doing another jigsaw puzzle together.

FRIDAY

I got the drive and walks blown out this noon and swept off both vehicles.  While I was out there I thought I saw a large bird chasing a little one but I'd just caught it out of the corner of my eye so I wasn't sure what I'd seen.  Just a little later I saw the large hawk  cruising around over the street and knew that was what I'd seen.  Probably the little bird was a sparrow; I'd heard some 'chip, chip, chipping' in the brush.  Perhaps the hawk has taken up residence in the area and that's why I haven't seen or heard any cardinals this year.

Later when I went out to get supper I had to sweep off the car again; good thing I'd pulled the van into the garage.  Coming out of KFC I discovered I'd locked my keys in the car so I used my insurance call-in benefit for the first time, less than an hour later I was heading for the grocery store and home.  I found both beef shanks and some boneless pork with manager's special stickers and I'm planning on pulling both crock pots out tomorrow.

FRIDAY

Started the day processing the pile of junk mail into the recycle bag.  Also called TIAA/CREF.  Then I went out and returned the little recorder to Rich and took his check to the bank.  Stopped in at JoAnn's and used the coupon on the scrapbook paper I'd wanted last year that was now on sale.  Back at home with Leofwyna gone to work I ran through four loads of laundry and did some more in the genealogy tree.  I sat up with it way to late so Saturday is bound to be rough.

Oddly enough, with the bird count in mind, I didn't notice a single bird while I was out and it was a lovely day.  I should have taken a walk; I'd surely have seen something.
WEDNESDAY

A run downtown to deliver the little recorder was a nul result as the recipient was not at work.  With his health issues in mind I certainly hope he's okay.  Instead of doing the thrift store thing again I went back home to the computer for some more job and genealogy searching.  When the evening rolled around I headed back out for the A&S singing session.  I took along the quilt to work on, too.  We taped the beginning of the new survivor and I think this is going to be a good one but in my opinion Phillip HAS to go!
WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY

There are so many on the Calonet posting memories of Luci, I actually only got to sit and get to know her some the once at Sash's apprentice weekend a few months ago.  A lovely, charming lady but for all that I really didn't know her well.  So I had offered to drive Sash if schedules didn't allow anyone else to get away from here.  Through the day Wednesday it was still up in the air whether I'd be driving Sash to the funeral service or if I'd still be going to Bobbin 'n Weavin it all cleared up during Moot.  Kat will be be taking Sash.  My potential passengers for the weekend both had changed their plans but Karina was still looking for a ride so Bobbin 'n Weavin it is.

On the way to Moot I was able to stop by and pick up the transcription work from Rich.  I'd promised it for the weekend so I had my day cut out for me Thursday... 6-9 hours with an unfamiliar piece of equipment which, as it turns out, only reverses all the way to the beginning and doesn't forward at all.  A nasty piece of work, that, but I finished up about 2am and sent it off before bed.

FRIDAY

Didn't sleep very well.  Plans were running through my head what  ALL to take this weekend to work on... use van or car... what to fix for potluck Saturday.  This morning I decided to keep it simple... no sewing machine, use the car anyway and my usual sausage-bean bake in the crockpot.  I can throw things in the car in fairly short order, make a quick stop at the store and still pick up Karina between 3-4.
SATURDAY

Oh so down in the dumps today but I did continue working on the sewing area trying to get it ready to do some work in. A friend of Leofwyna is sending me a quilt to repair and another friend of ours needs some garb done soon. I also have several pieces I need to get done for Leofwyna from the last couple years. They got buried in the piles and I ran across them today... oh the guilts!

Stirring up the dust has made my sinuses itchy... bleh.
TUESDAY

Today I got my seed box and the canister of LS's whole grains downstairs to remember to give them some attention. I had seen a viability chart somewhere on a blog and was determined to find it again and sort my seeds and discard old, probably bad seed and make plans for what I need to get this year. A great deal of what I have is still probably good; I'll test some of the older broccoli for viability to be safe. I dumped the rejects in the compost on my way up to bed.

WEDNESDAY

I figured LS must have gotten her whole grains at Whole Foods so I called this morning to see if they could tell me what I had from the code numbers written on the twist ties. This was successful and now I know I need to find recipes for couscous, quinoa, mung beans, groats, rice, brown rice, forbidden rice and basmati. I trimmed the two linen tunics this afternoon with Gyda's excellent tablet weaving so I could deliver those this evening at A&S. Halftroll's so cute; he tried them both on right away to see how they fit. Looked good!

Back at home tonight I darned Leofwyna's favorite woolen bed socks a second time. These are the first pair I knit five (or so) years ago and I've promised that as long as I have leftover matching yarn I'll continue to darn them for her.
FRIDAY

Spent a little time with Gyda's fabric tearing out the panels for the two Halftroll tunics. With care and efficiency I was able to leave a full yard of the yellow and four yards of the blue for another project.

SATURDAY

Got the blue (and absolutely plain as requested) tunic finished tonight. I just want so much to trim it up somehow it's so plain.

SUNDAY

Got the yellow linen mostly sewn up but stopped when I realized I needed to preshrink the trim before finishing it up. This one is looking good and the blue red and yellow trim is Gyda's really nice tablet weaving.

MONDAY

Leofwyna was able to go to sleep early today so she was up early and wanted to go to some thrift stores and a movie. We found a few jigsaw puzzles and some Christmas cards for next couple years and had supper at Valentino's before going to see Percy Jackson. Basically it's a teen date-night revisit to mythology and forgetable enough I had trouble remembering enough of it to come up with the name to key in here.

TUESDAY-THURSDAY

Mostly working on transcription job.  Nearly brain dead from that.  Wednesday I went to A&S where a discussion was held about a new play for use at our JAV demo in May.  Thursday evening I went to Fiber Art at Sash's.  Gyda lent me Halftroll's  lucet* so I can make cord.  It's too late to make my own cord for the gold key stuff but at least I'll learn the process and decide if I want to find-get one of my own for future use.  Both nights I worked on stitching down seams on the Viking caps.
(* I don't know why I have a mental block on remembering the name of this little forked wood tool.)

FRIDAY

Ran a few errands including getting the car insured and licensed, mailing payments, dropping off paper for recycling; then hit a couple thrift stores with no results this time and stopped for groceries for the weekend.  The grocery store was havng a good sale on meat so I got two nice boneless pork roasts to put in the crock pot .  Ran out back and threw out some broccoli and spinach seed in a couple of the raised beds as precipitation is indicated over the next few days..

SATURDAY-SUNDAY

First thing I put the pork in the big crockpot Iwith a couple packages of dried fruit and an onion.  When suppertime rolled around I cooked an artichoke and an acorn squash to go with the roast for supper.  I must of mostly veged out this weekend as I can't think of anything I accomplished.  That can't be right but oh well.  We lunched with Agnes, Isadora and Gwyneth as Agnes was in town this weekend.  The roast came back out for a second supper with sweet potatoes and green beans Sunday.

MONDAY-TUESDAY

The transcription is finally finished, thank goodness.  I've had quite enough of the subject on Antarctica I think.  Got the invoice turned in.   Revisited the pork roast as barbeque sandwiches with a cauliflower-carrot salad.  We both took turns stripping some of the cotton samples; the end is in sight.

SUNDAY

I did the machine sewing on the 13 black and white viking caps and got them into the handwork basket for finishing later. While watching a movie on television in the evening I got the handwork done on the small beige viking cap. I like the way these are turning out.

MONDAY

I had an interview for a 12-week full time temporary job at the University for May-June; cross your fingers for me, please.

While I was downtown I stopped in at the four thrift stores on O Street. Found a nice 4-yard piece of dark herringbone wool and a queen-size all cotton bedskirt. I think I can use the wool for a Scandinavian woman's caftan as the wool I got a week ago is too lightweight for the caftan and will probably become a Norman gown (I still have to dye it again to shift the color away from rosy to be darker and more more violet). The foundation from the bedskirt will make 2-3 nice veils; it's a light cotton gauze that works up nicer than anything else I've ever found. They're few and far between though as most bedskirts these days have poly or pellon-type foundations so I'm always excited when I find a good one. I'll use the stripe cotton from the bedskirt for quilt borders.

Back at home this afternoon Hochman called. He said he had a couple more tapes for me to do and offered to deliver them to me. When he arrived he had five tapes... eep! That'll keep me busy most of this week and into the weekend.
SATURDAY-SUNDAY

While Leofwyna tackled more sorting both days I concentrated on the transcription until I finially finished late Sunday afternoon.   I did take a break from the transcription for a little Saturday afternoon to help her search for a particular file box.  Thinking we'd know if it were in the house we concentrated on looking for it in the piles of furniture and boxes in the garage.  Finally we both took another turn through the piles of boxes in the house and found it on the bottom back stack in the dining room.  It took another half hour to pile stuff back into the garage and call that done.  All for one little piece of paper; the title to the car.

We watched the Academy Awards Sunday night and was pleased with the new format celebrating the winners instead of rushing them off the stage in order to beef up the program with 'entertainment' for the viewing audience.  I thought it was thoroughly refreshing for them to do honor to the award winners instead.  I've always thought it rather rude to turn up the music to force the honorees to leave.  Give the comedians and performers their own programs instead if there's an audience for them, eh?
FRIDAY

Today I took a pile of Little Sister's spring-summer clothes to a consignment shop in the south part of town.  They're pretty elite there and only took about two-thirds of what I carried in.  I set up another appointment in a couple weeks as there's shoes, purses and a box or two of more summer stuff; I just have to find these boxes before then.

Stopped at an estate sale on the way home but not one thing interesting except the view from the balcony.  Oh well, back home again for an evening of transcription.
WEDNESDAY

I'm always glad when someone calls me to do transcription but then while I'm actually doing it I sometimes feel it will never come to an end.  It helps when I find the subject to be interesting however that's not so much the case this time.  I have had worse to do.  I'll be done with it this week and there's been no indication there's more to do.

At A&S tonight the lady harper came and did a program about harps in period for us in exchange for the outdoor cooking talk her group requested.  Halftroll arranged all this in his role as demo coordinator.   It would be nice to have an Irish personna harpist in our group... It could maybe happen.
TUESDAY

Got three loads of laundry done and another tape transcribed.
