FRIDAY

Rode to coronation with Sabi (part of our arrangement for the gwazi coat and belt.) and Aibhilin who Sabi talked into going at the last minute. This made a nice travel set. We stayed at Olga's which Sabi was able to arrange through her household relationships so I got a chance to meet and get to know that remarkable woman. We got in about 12:30.

SATURDAY

The step down at morning court was charmingly orchestrated to be brief. I 'specially enjoyed his majesty assigning his children to escort their mother from court after she set aside her crown. This was an unusual event in that feast was at noon instead of in the evening. This unfortunately made me rather lethargic for the afternoon and fighting the drowsys during afternoon court. I did make significant progress on the green stockings I've had in my basket over a year now after starting over the toes so many times trying to get them right. I have them both nearly to begin turning the heel.

We joined six others, including Olga and Fionna, for supper. We stopped in for a short while at revel but left before any significant mayhem developed.

SUNDAY

We were up and on the road by 9am in the rain and I dozed a great deal between St Louis and Kansas City although I feel like I followed the storyline of the Elizabeth Lowell book we were listening to. In Kansas City we stopped for lunch at Mama's, a place featured a while back on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". I enjoyed my Baltimore Melt and Carrotcake very much. I was home and collapsed in front of the TV with cat in lap by 7pm but Leofwyna wasn't home from her evening until after ten. I did spend some of the evening stitching up the borders for the log cabin quilt... looks like there may have been just about the right amount of the strips. If I do have to extend it, it won't be by very much. Just gotta find a place to lay it out to distribute the vivid bits evenly.

THURSDAY

Worked through my paperwork today and did a preliminary run through the taxwork. I couldn't finish up those forms until Leofwyna works up hers but I think I'm going to like getting those checks. I put together the other eight log cabin blocks I needed and prepared the leftover strips for a pieced border.

Packed and loaded up for the trip to coronation. I'll be out the door shortly.

Knowing Saturday was going to be another long day on little sleep I took it entirely easy today, sleeping late, computalating and starting another jigsaw puzzle.

SATURDAY

First I could not get to sleep last night then I managed to miss my ride to Clothiers. I hit red on every light on the way to my pickup point then did the slippy slide to get going again losing much time... late to my connection who quite rightly had already taken off. Tried to get to the alternative possibility who I knew were leaving a bit later but they, too, were already gone. So back home to bed where I still couldn't fall asleep!

Finally gave up and got up and now I'm lazing in front of the TV on the computer again today. Now that Leofwyna is up I'll get some supper and spend more time with the jigsaw and make an early night of it.

FRIDAY

For the first time we offered crash space in our home and I think it went well. We put our guests up in the living room as we aren't done with putting the downstairs in order yet. As neither Leofwyna nor I had been able to locate either of the air pumps I had spent much of the evening blowing up an air mattress myself. Fortunately since they'd said they wanted to use the two sofas I didn't need to blow up any more than the one mattress. Amba, Hrolfgar and Viktor finally arrived well after eleven, instead of ten or so, because they had to drive very slowly through lots of fog.

SATURDAY

We had a good turnout for Winter War Maneuvers with royalty visiting from three kingdoms and roughly 350 in attendance. Court included Dolan's Laurel elevation with a beautiful ceremony with music and poetry. Other awards included Torse's for Chiara and Gyda and an AOA for one of the Scarlet Keepers. There was also a fyrd given in a field court early in the afternoon to one of our lady fighters. My crashers were pretty much used up by the activities of the day and decided to head home instead of staying for the revel and crashing another night.

SUNDAY

Leofwyna woke me at nine this morning thinking I'd forgotten to set the alarm to go help with revel clean up. Since I was awake and she was going I went too and with Natalia and Zino were done in just under an hour. We'd intended to go see the 3D version of Avatar that night but the lines were long so we decided to wait until a weeknight instead. We stopped on the way home to rent a couple movies and I watched Night in the Museum II with her before heading to bed.

MONDAY

I went out today to see if a ten-pack jigsaw puzzle was still at the Salvation Army. It was so I got it to surprize Leofwyna with. Turns out only five of the puzzles are in the box but the price was good enough to make that okay too. The first puzzle we put together, a night scene, went quickly so we started another of a street scene of a sidewalk cafe which is terribly 'painterly' therefore more difficult.

I also found an electric aebleskiver 'iron' with which I want to try a small batch for myself to see if it works before I surprise Leofwyna with that potential delight. If it doesn't really work I can get rid of it and avoid disappointing her with it.

This evening when Leofwyna went into the laundry room she saw one of the air pumps on the laundry table. Then as she was looking for her event basket to find her scissors she found the other pump in the top box of a stack of boxes (also in the laundry room). Can we spell embarassed and annoyed?

TUESDAY

Today I put some sausages to heat in a pot of water for lunch and forgot them. About an hour later they made their presence known and I spent another hour chilling the house by airing out the fumes. Tonight when Leofwyna is gone to work I'll have to deal with the carbon in the bottom of the pan when it won't matter what kind of noise I may have to make in that process.

SATURDAY

There were a large number of entrants for the A&S body-of-work competition at Twelfth Night which made a lovely big display in the main hall. I made my modest contribution with my fowl tarts, saxon pins and the documentation from half a dozen other projects for which I no longer had the examples to show.

Master Sash took on Shandra as his third apprentice so I have a new sister to get to know better.

Although there were AoA's and Torse's given in court I can't name names as I gotta know a person to be able to remember a name past the moment. Our own Halftroll received a Golden Calon Swan for his bardic talents. There was a chuckle moment in court when he knelt before their majesties and was still taller than their seated selves. Randwulf received a Leather Mallet for his skill in Metalwork.

Sir Ashir won the 12th night combat club trophy a second year. The boon was begged that Sir Alexander be elevated to the Order of the Pelican. And of course Michael and Sorcha were given court baronies.

FRIDAY

Leofwyna and I spent a couple hours working on clearing out the front flower bed... this project is going to take couple hours for many evenings to get it done as there's a 14 yard stretch of it across the front and it's hard going. We may leave the stretch of Veronica for next summer and take out the last 3-4 yards next fall.

I also hit the oldest compost bin that I'd put the sprouted potatoes in early this summer. They'd thrown up several plants and there was a couple pounds of new potatoes which I sorted out. The compost was in shade and I wasn't surprised that it hadn't done better. Now Leofwyna can take compost from that bin when she seeds grass up front. We're both still avoiding the big compost bin that the yellow jackets have colonized. I'll deal with that this winter.

In front of the TV tonight I grabbed up a pile of polished cotton samples to stitch together in another quilt top.

SATURDAY

Up very early (only four hours sleep) and said good-bye to Leofwyna who was just coming up to bed as I was getting on the road to coronation. Since the instructions in the MEWS weren't very helpful (Never did find an Edmonds Ave exit), I was pretty late finding the place getting into a long line for troll. I missed out on any chance of getting feast. Got dressed and up to morning court where I had missed the first bit and came in after Ashir's knighting ceremony had begun. I was way in the back and couldn't hear much of anything so made up my mind to get a good seat for the afternoon court. I ate inn fare then sat and illuminated a scroll during the afternoon before heading up to secure my seat for court. I got a real kick out of watching the Bellwood kids as several of them got their AOAs and how delighted they were for each other.

I told the Scarlet Keep kids who were riding home with me that I would disappear during feast, not to worry, enjoy a leisurely feast, I'd be back for them. Headed out to find supper but found most places I was interested in backed up with waiting lines and ended up pulling through Taco Bell. Dropped the Scarlet Keep kids who rode back to Lincoln with me back at their doorsteps and was home myself by midnight. Leofwyna called from work a little later to see if I was home yet and ask about the event. I was tired enough to head to bed earlier than usual.

SUNDAY

Wow, a full ten hours sleep which felt really good. Since Leofwyna was sleeping all day I left the house for the afternoon, ate and hit a couple thrift stores. When she woke up we headed out for another couple hours work on the flowerbed. She had set up the crockpot full of fresh pork ham this morning with plans to use my little batch of new potatoes creamed with peas for supper. This evening I finished putting together the polished cotton quilt top and it looks really good although it's to small for me to keep and quilt so it goes into the charity quilt pile, too.

MONDAY

Since it rained during the night we both took it easy today. I headed out for lunch while Leofwyna was still sleeping and stopped in and browsed at T J Maxx. Back at home while Leofwyna left and ran her errands I poked around on the computer... basically a very lazy day.

PART TWO

Leaving Great Falls Friday we didn't bother organizing the load for the air mattress. We just piled it all in and got ready to get on the road. Again our hosts were up and gone to work before we roused for the day. We stopped at the grocery store for ice and fruit for lunch. Since this store was out of film for my camera we drove across to Walgrens. We were fortunate a lady took a moment there to let us know we had a flattening tire. When we looked up and down the street we saw that we were only a block from a Firestone Store and went there. Turned out it was only a little screw that made the puncture and after an hour we were on the road. It's a good thing this was taken care of then as there was an awful lot of open road that day.

We arrived in Calgary and we were very warmly greeted by Baron Beothuk and Baroness Wilma. We had just enough daylight left to find a camp site, set up the tent and get unloaded. The Baroness came around just as we needed an extra hand to get the supports up on our tent; we're indebted to her for the timely assistance. We went across to set up our sunshade at the archery field before we changed into garb, then we watched a nighttime shoot with glow sticks attached to the arrows. Looked like falling stars when they came down; but I'm not quite sure what comparison to use for the initial upward part of the shoot. It was really impressive but Leofwyna and I could only think of Owain's response to this activity! We also went to the bardic fire and enjoyed a great time there too. When we finally excused ourselves we still needed to run into town for ice so it was rather late when we fell into our beds.

Saturday morning proved how well we'd choosen our campsite as nothing woke us until we were ready. We had a great spot in a grove of trees beyond the tepee area that shaded us all day but was not the least bit stuffy. We had set up our sunshade near the archery field so we'd be comfortable viewing the archery tournament and shared it with lots of lovely people through the morning. Later after lunch we were surprised and delighted upon returning to our seats to see our sunshade being bourne across the field to make it serve for viewing the rapier and heavy tournaments too. Again, the shade was much appreciated by many lovely personages, including HRH Erica the Princess of Avacal, HE Wilma the Baroness of Montengarde, and my lj friends, Minyata and Cat-Cetera.

Feast was a money-raiser put on by the folks of the Archery Center and was WONDERFUL. The roast beef meal we'd been promised was perfectly cooked prime rib, potatoes and carrots, corn on the cob and baked beans. Court was held after supper and we were surprised to be called into court for recognition and gifts. Leofwyna still had the presence of mind at this point to make cogent remarks... I was just speechless.

After dark another fire circle was formed up for entertainment. A theme of SCA memories was encouraged for awhile and later developed into songs, stories and so forth. When Calontir was invited to participate I told my morality stories that I earned my Baronial Championship with and Leofwyna performed a tune on our ocarina and told about it's making. We stayed even later Saturday than we had Friday but another ice run was required before we found our beds.

We found the Montegarde citizens to be as warm and familiar as our own MagMorons and enjoyed this part of our trip immensely!! Thank you for making it so.

SATURDAY

We had a beautiful day for Spring Fling and Leofwyna's birthday. We got to visit with lots of folks and I spent considerable time embroidering on the banner in the process. His excellency, my baron, is positive the banner will be ready for Cattle Raids in August. I reminded him there's rummage sales, vegetable beds, yardwork and a job search that have to take priority on my time. I tried to prepare him for the possibility this might not be achieved although I am trying to make it happen.

During court Dorcas Whitecap was asked to join the Order of the Pelican for her long-standing efforts in field-heraldry and Master Gawain of Miskbridge was offered an augmentation of arms for his years of service to the kingdom. Since we hadn't gotten our names in for feast in time we joined other MagMorons in seeking our supper and ended up at a Chinese buffet.

FRIDAY

Packed for the weekend and got the car loaded then worked with Leofwyna getting several boxes of rummage sale stuff sorted and priced for the April sale. Met up with PJ and Diane to leave about 9pm to get on the road. I hung my little flashlight on my right ear so I could embroider on the banner all the way down to KC and got a good little section of work done thereby.

SATURDAY

Didn't sleep very well; for once a motel heater worked all too well and about cooked us. Free breakfast was orange juice and Belgian waffles; not bad at all!

Got to the Coronation site in good time to be well settled for morning court.

During Their Majesties' Maerwynne and Luther's final court Mistress Katrei Grunenburg (Companion of the Laurel, Chiurgeon General of the Society, Baroness of the Court of Calontir) was elevated to Pelican in a beautiful ceremony. My goodness, she is a busy, busy Calontiri! Duchess Phaedra was awarded a Cross with a dazzeling scroll created by Mistress Fionn ( evil_fionn) and written by Drix ( trimguy ). And Mistress Elasait (elasait ) got Her Majesty's QED for courtesy... hurrah!

And as always the ceremony for Their Highnesses crowning was extremely moving. But this time having both Martino and then Ariel elevated on shields was breathtaking!

The site for the coronation was lovely and considering the weather a much better choice than originally indicated but it was a trifle close with the numbers attending. I settled myself with my embroidery and visited with those who came into proximity and missed out on many others who were there.

During troll we agreed we'd stay for feast. This was a thoroughly Roman feast that was most interesting and flavorful but unfortunately my tummy didn't handle it very well... too much acid which kept me from sleeping very well. At the end of the day since there was lots o'snow we decided to stayover at the motel another night.

SUNDAY

KC this morning was full of pretty snow and ice frosted trees and bushes against clear blue sky... got home about noon back into spring-like weather.

This afternoon I caught up with e-mail, job search and did some more sewing my my new blue linen cote adding another line of trim around the hem which used up the last little bit of that particular trim.

TUESDAY

Got a late start Tuesday but in addition to cleaning the kitchen and doing up a load of laundry I did get the new blue tunic cut out and the embroidered (recycled) neckline facing finished. Still need to find and mount trim and finish the sideseams and hem. Should be able to finish it in time for coronation this weekend. Gotta dig around in the stash and find that trim and the wool-blend for the new apron dress which I'd also like to have done before the weekend so I can have choices!

WEDNESDAY

Took Little Sister's shoes to the consignment shop today... two big boxes full but she only accepted three pair and indicated four more that could come back next season. That leaves an awful lot of orphaned shoes; anyone wear 8 1/2 or 9 narrow? Stopped in at Earl Mays' to get seeds for this years veggie beds; got mixed lettuce (musclen?), radish, beans, squash, spinach, brocolli, parsnip, nasturtiums and probably more I don't remember what.

Moot was tonight and I stopped in at Sash's after to get my music CD which has been lost. It probably got mixed in with Gerald's computer stuff when he was last there. Eleanore, I need a copy of the music CD, please.

Back at home I was determined to finish the blue tunic and was trying to decide on the trim but nothing was working until Leofwyna gave me one of her 'trim' shirts for a nicer finish for the blue tunic. Got it finished but for the hem.

THURSDAY

Called Diana and made arrangements for a ride to Coronation Friday night.   Sounds like most of MagMor will be there this weekend.

Two boxes of summer clothes have surfaced so I got those on hangers today; mostly pants and little knit tops.   When Leofwyna got home from work I had her mark the hem on the blue tunic and got that finished so I can wear it this weekend.

Leofwyna and I have been pricing stuff almost daily for a community rummage sale in April. It'll be indoors so weather won't matter. It'll be a bit of an investment for the space but hopefullly this early sale will get rid of a pile of stuff.

THURSDAY

I made a mistake in lettng Leofwyna sleep in. I didn't know she'd set the alarm but it didn't go off so turns out she'll have to make a second trip to Omaha tomorrow. Eep! This means she has to cancel a haircut which makes her very cross.

When she did waken we headed out to Omaha for the final load out of the apartment and to finish cleaning the stove and the vacuuming and floor mopping. We finished up late enough that she scheduled the manager's review for Friday along with returning the cable box and shutting down the utilities. Back to Lincoln to empty the van and collapse.

FRIDAY

While Leofwyna headed to Omaha for finishing details I was packing for the weekend. Sabi picked me up a little before seven for the drive to Illinois; we pulled in to our crash site before four.

SATURDAY

The event was Festival of Maidens in Shire of Wurm Wald in the Middle Kingdom; my first out of kingdom event aside from Pennsic several years ago. We got our Passports signed by Her Majesty thanks to Amanda's young man, Tim. I sat in on a couple class sessions, embroidery and A&S 50 while Sabi went to a pattern drafting session. Going to a court out of kingdom is a completely different sort of experience as the players are unknown. Since there was no feast we headed out for a Gyros supper and being pretty tired forewent returning for the ball in the evening.

SUNDAY

An early start got us home again before four and I accomplished absolutely nothing more today. Leofwyna and I went out for supper at Golden Corral.

TUESDAY

Turns out Leofwyna got put 'on-call' so we had a sleep in and a slow start to our day. While Leofwyna ran a couple errands about town I prepared an event report and caught up with some email. In response to the email I made arrangements to accompany Sabi to Festival of Maidens in Middle Kingdom this weekend. We finally got the van unloaded late in the afternoon and decided in the evening to head back to Omaha to be able to get an early start.

WEDNESDAY

Trish spent a couple hours with us today cleaning Little Sister's apartment. I loaded the van again and since clearly there's enough for another load we decided to head back to Lincoln tonight and return, again, tomorrow. Tonight we're catching a breather and watching Top Chef and LOST and making a lap for the poor, neglected kitty.

THURSDAY

When I woke up I wrote out a few checks to send out to cover bills this month. Also addressed envelopes for the reports going to the regional rep. Turned out I should have been preparing to head back to Omaha a little more quickly as Leofwyna had set up an appointment with the attorney to start the probate proceedings early this afternoon. Fortunately I was quick enough getting ready that we were very nearly on time; enough so that we waited briefly for the attorney who was running late too. Turns out things are going to be in good order, no foreseeable problems, only six months probate.

Back at the apartment I continued working in the bedroom while Leofwyna worked on her 'memorial posters' with many pictures of Little Sister to share with friends and relatives Friday. In the evening we put on a movie and I settled in with my banner embroidery for a little relaxation while Leofwyna continued spiffing up her posters.

FRIDAY

Friday afternoon was the memorial gathering for Little Sister and it turned out really well. Lots of remembrances from people we knew and lots more from people we only knew existed and more from people we'd never heard of. We had a traditional Danish coffee (which always includes sandwiches and a sweet) and sat informally around tables visiting and laughing. We even had a little 'roast' on Little Sister who was always a great storyteller herself so I'm sure she would have appreciated the stories being told on her that afternoon.

After loading up and getting Leofwyna back to the apartment I had to head back home and be ready for our event. Leofwyna insists that I must use Little Sister's nice red car as it's a much more recent model than mine so I loaded it up with clothing I'll take directly to consignment shops Monday; there's precious little space for more stuff in our little house and we're going to have to figure out where to put things we're keeping.

SATURDAY

It was a good day for MagMor with Winter War Maneuvers with sunny skies offsetting the chill. I closed troll by one and had the deposit ready to run to the bank when I went out for lunch. I was back in time to see Bristol receive his Fyrd during a field court. I learned Seraphima authorized, too. At the regular court at the end of the day we witnessed Vatavia's investiture of their new baron/baroness. Then MagMor's Wilhelm Halftroll received a torse, Gyda Glora and Dwolm received leather mallets and Chiara and Yoichi got their AOAs. A highly satisfying event all 'round. I found I was thoroughly exhausted and headed home to become a lap for the cat and little else!

Oh yes, I did kill the mouse. No... not the furry grey kind but the mouse on my computor. Fortunately Leofwyna is a rebater and had a new one in the backup box and in short order I was back to catching up on reading email and journals. I didn't generate much myself as I was sleepy and didn't trust my 'filters'... that had to wait another day.

SUNDAY

This morning I was up early to head downtown to help clean the post revel site meeting up there with Natalya, Rosa, Aibhilin and Yoishi and got done in little more than an hour. This afternoon while catching up with emails and stuff the monitor went black on me and couldn't raise Leofwyna on the phone. I wanted her to bring back Little Sister's monitor with her as that's not something she's got hidden away in the box. Now we'll have to wait a week 'til we can bring it back so journaling may be spotty for awhile. When she showed up from Omaha we unloaded the van and headed out to a movie, Valkyre, and stopped in at the UNL computor lab for this little stretch on-line at adjoining desks. It's nearly time to head home and molify the cat again.

Meanwhile, I'm making mental lists that need to be managed this month.

FRIDAY

Had a quiet day while Leofwyna was at work so I put together half a dozen leather covered journals to use for Twelfth Night gifts tomorrow. Made a run to the office supply store for more rubber cement but didn't think to pick up more paper so that's left to do another day. While I was at it I also recovered a 'boughten' journal with green leather as a surprize for Leofwyna. Finally I really got on the ball and cleaned up the kitchen and got organized for tomorrow's event... I'm pretty much ready to go.

SATURDAY

Went to Twelfth Night today with Leofwyna and Odierne and met up there with our guest, Shane, who may become a new active member in our barony. He was really interested in everything and was already making plans. He looked darned good in a grey tunic and my Celtic embroidered blue mantle. I received nice prezzies, a book, handknit wool socks, a big spool of linen thread and my favorite orange-chocolate cookies. The feast done by the Cooks' Guild was, I think, the best I can remember... yummy!

THURSDAY-FRIDAY

I have a nice new sleep pattern set up, early to bed and early to rise. I'm reading my emails and ljs in the mornings while making Joey a warm lap and doesn't he love it. Cut and sewed up a pair of britches to go with the second doublet Thursday afternoon and went to Fiber Arts in the evening. Friday I whipped through the dishes and then started sewing up the squares cut from the earlier samples... might as well get them out of the way even if they are fiddly. Set up and ready for a fast get-a-way tomorrow for Kris Kinder and early to bed.

SATURDAY

Up early and dark, beating Leofwyna to the facilities as she works this weekend. Met up with Cat, Oz and Sash to pool the ride to Kris Kinder. While there I cruised through the merchants but managed to refrain from serious shopping; did quite a lot of work on the banner while getting to know Marcella better and visiting with many various other folks. Did attend my exchequer meeting and manged the last little while of the fiber meeting also. Got to page through the many books Jane and Angelo brought from from their trip to Europe. Court was splendid, especially the presentation of the magnificent floorcloth for the Kingdom pavillion.

THURSDAY

In spite of the rain I checked in at a few thrift stores; bought a metal hanging basket to try a tomato plant in next spring.

FRIDAY

Picked up and put away lots of odds and ends out of the living room. Met up with Leofwyna to go to scribes where she was talked into creating a last minute scroll. Having trouble with the Internet connection.

SATURDAY

Sat on the front step and re-sorted rejected samples from the car for backs for Leowyna's Victorian ornament project. Leofwyna cooked for Sunday's event and then we went for a late supper at Golden Corral. I ended up the day sewing up linen samples for a camp quilt.

SUNDAY

Spent the windy but sunny day at St. Marks on the Campus at the Baronial A&S. We had nearly forty people there including new folks Raymond, Stephanie and Saraphina. It's certainly good to pull in some new people. Isabeau Jehane is the new Baronial A & S champion, Gyda Glora (Intermediateblevel winner) and Seraphina Brugari (Beginner level winner). In addition to the A&S competition Leofwyna headed up there was a "Well-heeled Warrior" challenge sponsored by Baron Sashatec. Winners of this were Saraphina and Viljalhmer.

Potluck feast was great with lots of lovely variety including four soups, lasagne, four or five meat dishes, and four or five deserts which included a wonderful custard which was my weakness.

Leofwyna sold Raymond some bolt-end fabrics she had on hand and I'll be making up some merchant class garb for him... black pants with a subtle red stripe and a red linen doublet which I'll get started on this week using a Simplicity pattern I've used before for mens' garb. Stephanie and I will go shopping for fabric for her garb and his shirt sometime this week and we'll probably make her a cotehardie and maybe an open-sided surcoat.

FRIDAY

So... upon arising today I firmly set myself to preparing for the weekend making my list and packing and taking myself off to meet up with Calien and Asa at 5pm for the drive to Standing Stones for Charlemagne's Octoberfest. We pulled into Asa's sister's place about 11pm to spend the night. It was a camping event but the three of us in a compact car was just enough room as it was with no camping materials nor armour for Asa.

Since both Calien and Asa were part of Her Majesty's retinue we were up early for the thirty minute drive to the event site. Thus I was able to deliver the passports to troll before it officially opened. The site was a lovely little park on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River. There was a fine big pavillion for A&S during the day where the feast was served that evening. Another large shade fly housed MoC activities. There was of course plenty of meetings, cooking, fighting and archery. I mostly stayed in the A&S area auditing the classes and working on my banner embroidery.

At court after various awards and event reports their Majesties were approached for the boon of inviting HL Finghuala inghean Fhearghuis to join the Order of the Laurel. This was the same lady who had presented three of the four classes offered during the day and I was pleased with this announcement. The vigil and ceremony will probably be at Crown Tournament in Three Rivers.

At feast I sat with Nicholas and Nina and had a most pleasant meal. Courses were generous and tasty. Most memorable was the delicately seasoned pork sausages with honeyed roasted vegetables and a honey-mustard sauce. After a short session at the bardic session at the fire pit we headed back to our crash site before the real rowdiness began.

SUNDAY

Another early day but this one was begun with a nice stop for breakfast with Heather before getting on the road to head home. We pulled into town around 2pm [a pleasant surprise as I'd expected not to arrive before 3pm or so]. Got home to discover Leofwyna had gone to Omaha for a movie and supper with our younger sister. I got unloaded and unpacked and caught up with emails before going out for my own supper. Finished the evening breaking down several more sample books and stripping paper from the poly samples. Soon I'll be sewing up quilt tops for the ladies at home to tie off for the missions.

When I brought up that we were looking for a little lady cat to bring our residence population back up Calien thought perhaps her Summer, a Siamese mix, might suit. They have a dog and three cats and this one isn't settling well with the others. I'll bring it up with Leofwyna and we'll check it out.

MONDAY

It rained during the night and was promising more during the day so the proposal demo got postponed to next Monday. Wouldn't you know, the sun broke out about 3pm and turned into a lovely clear evening. Sure hope the weather works next week or somebody will be kicking themselves for this.

Leofwyna and I got busy this afternoon making a HUGE apple crisp and starting crockpot apple butter from Shelly's apples. Leofwyna put together a nice tuna-noodle cassarole for lupper [mid afternoon meal instead of lunch] which we ate again for linner [a late dinner balancing a late lunch]. I stripped paper from cotton-linen samples until my hands were cramping... too much peeling and stuff in one day I guess.

When Leofwyna talked with Calien tonight we learned Summer wasn't declawed; that wouldn't be fair to Joseph so we're having second thoughts. It would have been a good thing for Caleigh to be able to visit Summer here when she has cooking lessons with Leofwyna; what to do?

SATURDAY, Part two

Though archery and organized fighting were apparently canceled due to the weather everyone was able to find ways to while away the afternoon. There were meetings and plans being made for Lilies War in the main hall so I settled in the lunch inn hall where several merchants had their displays and while there I spent most the afternoon visiting with my sister apprentice Marcella, Baroness Catherine, Baron-Master Sashetec, Leofwyna and Gyda.

I noticed Lady Natalya was busy through the afternoon distributing the Jubilee Passports I’d sewn and ensuring passport kits were forwarded to upcoming events for further distribution. The premise is to get as many kingdom-level events stamped into your passport book as possible during this reign and after next coronation having your local seneschal count the events and turn the numbers into Lady Natalya. Prizes will be distributed at Lilies next year.

The cooks of Calontir were tempting all who enjoy good foods in the hall prior to court and I made sure to get the recipe for the Ginger-Coconut fudge. During afternoon court Zenobia O'Dell was granted rights to bear arms and Lady Marrion Baggeputz, who was summoned away from feast preparations, was brought into the Order of the Torse. His Majesty Luther asked Sir Rolf Eichmann to serve as General of the Army as he had done once before. I went up when the populace was invited forward for their oaths and received one of the Queen’s rings.

And thus evening Court came to a close and the great hall was put in order for a hearty feast. When their majesty’s party proceeded in HM Maerwynn created an incredible medieval moment by bringing the cup to the high table to her king, her mother and their friends sitting at head table

As course after course of food issued forth from the kitchen, music could be heard throughout the hall. At one point between courses Mistress Gwenyth’s troup, including Leofwyna, performed for the assemblage a new filk called The Saxon Monkey. This was received with laughter and enjoyment by all present and Leofwyna was gratified in receiving thanks from His Majesty Luther for her part in the performance. Her aping the monkey was indeed most appropriate.

Upon the conclusion of feast our small group gathered up possessions preparing to face the five-hour drive home while other folks were slowly making their way out of the hall to the Bardic Circle and Coronation Ball.

We pulled in at our house at 3:30 a.m. and were glad to seek out our beds and sleep in very late.

FRIDAY

Fortunately the downpours that stayed with us the entire distance did let up to a faint drizzle while we were out of the van for supper in Council Bluffs. I made good use of the dim evening light handsewing Leofwyna's new coif and mending her Saxon belt pouch. I also got to embroider the banner through the dusk with the dome light but when the sun finally set I had to turn it off for the driver. From that point we played "I went to coronation and in my bag I packed..."

It was good to reach the motel and fall into bed around eleven!

SATURDAY, Part one

We awoke bright and early... well we were bright enough though the day wasn't. The motel had a nice courtesy breakfast of Belgian waffles, sausage gravy and biscuits, cereal, bagels, juice, milk, coffee and a choice of apples or bananas. We can endorse the use of Heartland Inn when needed!

It rained or drizzled most of the day and was so hugely humid it seemed rainy even if it wasn’t. It was supposed to be an outdoors coronation, but it got moved into the lodge, which was a great relief to me as I was then able to relax and enjoy the day. There was apparently some problem with the tentage rented for the coronation site; as we drove in that morning we saw one end was down from rain overload. Most of the schedule went awry because of the lack of outdoor activities.

Their majesties Anton and Isabeau gave a nice closing court and thanked the various parts of their retinue for their service. There was a Silver Hammer for Sofya la Rus for Russian studies and a Calon Cross for Caillin O’hicighe, former kingdom chirurgeon, awarded.   Mirabel Wynne was made a court baroness.  The Queen awarded Agamemnon of Flatrock a chalice for service and participation he did as a child. He grew up in the SCA as she did and she felt it was long overdue. He may be the first Fyrdman to receive a chalice.   For Queen’s Endorsement of Distinction Baroness Gillian Warrender for the Ideal of the Society; Lady Nikolyena for Courtesy; and Lord Sean of the Chippendales for Chivalry. Lord Sean also received a "Court Duchy" for the remainder of the reign; a tinfoil coronet accompanied this honor.

Luther and his entourage approached the chivalry guarding the throne. He was challenged, then three officials spoke up to affirm that he was indeed the winner of the last crown tourney. He received the crown and then Maerwynn approached and received her crown. At each approach, there was singing from Mistress Gwenyth's group from MagMor.  Queen’s Champion is HE Edward Blythe. Semjaka was made King's Champion. The Knights, Laurels, Pelicans and Territorial Barons made their pledges of loyalty.

SATURDAY

Woke up at ten to eight to a beautiful day; dressed fast but it was a good thing Carlos and Kat were already there to open troll for me at eight. When troll shut down we had a total of 200 signed up and feast was sold out. Woo-hoo!

During the afternoon I became Sash’s second apprentice, visited with lots of folks and watched the equestrians tilt at rings for awhile. For court there was a high cloud cover and a gentle breeze. Once Volkmar got everyone moved in closer to the thrones and resettled the procession began… their majesties, their highnesses and finally, their excellencies. As everyone bowed each time the row of seven equestrians AND THEIR HORSES bowed too. Viljalhmer sang their excellencies in with a new song which we need to hear again and again so we can learn it too. It was most excellent!

During court Drix was called before the thrones. He gave a moving report/eulogy on the passing of Mikal the Ram, then introduced Dolan who had a new song featuring Mikal’s presence past and future. There were some tears involved and Mikal tokens were passed out.

The Barony called up Aibhilin for an Ancaire, Viljalhmer for an Ancient Aurochs, and Eleanor for an Adharc Or where his excellency thanked Eleanor for being his conscience in A&S.

Prizes were handed out for multitudinous competitions that had happened during the day. Maximilian was called forward for a Torse. Nicolette’s Pelican elevation was lovely and moving. And the sky cleared to a lovely pale blue for the closing processional.

Sat at table with Viljalhmer, Gyda, Sabi, Aibhilin, Dolan and Terry. Eulalia had some great food for feast. I was stuffed before the second remove. Viljalhmer arranged for three singers to entertain: himself, Conna, Gerald and Dolan.

While our guests disbursed to the evening entertainment I helped clear the hall and loaded my car. I squeezed in an evening visit with my new household during a breather.
