THURSDAY

Today i sewed up the new divider for the tent to replace the drab one that came with the tent. I need to go buy twill tape and netting to finish the project. This is going to be so cool! I finished the day by pulling out the box of silk samples to start stripping them for a couple crazy quilt tops. This, too, will be engrossing.

FRIDAY

Today was a day we put on the calendar to work together on digging out the living room. And surprise, we found a floor under there with carpet and everything. It's not totally done but BIG progress was made. I have about two yards of closet rod of clothes to take to the consignment shops... the fall-winter things I couldn't take before. We priced and boxed up half a dozen boxes of stuff for the next garage sale and piled them in Leofwyna's bedroom. We swapped out the new coffee table and put the old one downstairs... and guest bedding went downstairs, too, along with a big pile of empty paper boxes we're not quite ready to let go yet.

SATURDAY

I had intended to get up and out early for an annual textile garage sale put on by the UNL home ec department but when the alarm went off I decided I had enough fabric and went back to bed. It remains to be seen if I regret this when I hear stories about great buys. Leofwyna and I spent the afternoon working with several others here in MagMor making pretzels for the Cattle Raids feast. There were seven of us and a couple from Lonely Tower so the work went easily.

This evening Isadora called about borrowing a sewing machine while hers is on the fritz so I pulled out my second best 301 and oiled it up for her before she stopped by to pick it up. More silk stripping ensued.

MONDAY

Left the house soon as I got up fully intending to take the wool blankets to the dry cleaners and pick up the serger. Didn't do that, instead after eating lunch I dropped off aluminum cans out of the trunk and headed back home. After going to the Chinese buffet for supper I mowed the back yard while Leofwyna weeded and deadheaded around the edges. I also ran the weedwacker through the veggie bed paths and around the house.

When I came into the house we got into a little tiff regarding a TV program; only explanation I can come up with is too much togetherness the last couple weeks. This sort of behavior hasn't happened in years! We rebonded over Baskin Robbins ice cream and alls well.

TUESDAY

Left the house after checking email. Decided not to deal with the wool blankets until Leofwyna found her two to add to the pile. After eating lunch I stopped in at Goodwill for their traveling sale day (buy one normal price get four more at $1/ea). Found a pretty little miniature teapot to add to Leofwyna's collection. Leofwyna spent the afternoon with Shelly and called with supper suggestions and we ended up eating BBQ ribs at IHOP. I had fun teasing her (and the waitress) about the 'surprise' but not telling her what it was until we got home. She had to call the waitress to describe it as promised. I spent part of the evening partially assembling one of the new camp carpets; had to stop when my hands got ache-y.

WEDNESDAY

First thing this morning the mouse died amid power surges and scorch oders (this explains internet connection problems the last few days). Upon looking it over I found the wire failure where the cord meets the mouse so I shopped for a replacement this afternoon. Brought home a cordless version so the cord won't be a problem. Trouble is the mouse needs to be within 3' of the tower attachment. Hmm, may need to rearrange something. I stopped in at the Salvation Army 50% clothing sale and found a beautiful black poplin car coat, half of $6.99 is a great price for a very gently used coat.

Natalya had called for a Finance Committee meeting before A&S tonight so of course I went for that. There was discussion about the Cattle Raids situation and the possibility we may not have the feast hall and kitchen if the site owners succeed in selling their house whereupon they'll be re-constructing the feast hall for a residence! This may happen as late as a couple days before our event; no consideration of contract or fees paid. Their suggestion is for a feast hall refund, or perhaps we'd like to cancel our event!?! Unbelieveable!!!

Concensus was to rent (rather inexpensively really) an alternate feast hall with kitchen as insurance in case we need it. And prices are being sought for security for while over 150 participants are off-site for feast.

I also learned that Gyda was selected for next exchequer while I was gone and we'll be working up the next quarter report together. She'll also be helping me with troll at Cattle Raids. I think she'll make a great exchequer.

TUESDAY

When I actually got motivated to accomplish something this afternoon I cleaned up the kitchen then headed out to commence shearing the weeds out of the veggie beds. Some progress was being made when Leofwyna returned from her afternoon activities and said we should go visit Uncle G- as he'd probably be going home soon. Gee, twist my arm harder I've gotta shower before we go.

Uncle G- is 95 years old and the last relative we have in that generation. Amazingly enough he still is living in his home but having laparoscopic surgery for his gall bladder will keep him in a facility for 2-3 weeks recovering. If we can do as well aging as he has, that would be a wonderful thing. Too bad our relationship is through his marriage to Aunt L-; there's none of our genes involved.

WEDNESDAY

So today while Leofwyna took off I did too. I stopped in at Golden Corral to eat... probably won't go there anymore. Since they changed management this one has gone seriously downhill. I spent time using the table to catch up reading mail, balancing the checkbook and writing checks for bills. After a quick stop at the bank and post office I went into Salvation Army for 50% clothing day and hit the jackpot with linen, cotton-linen, silk and cotton shirts. I've gotta get on the ball and get my sewing area back up and deal with processing the shirts to use real soon. My fingertips are itching to get back to some of my sewing.

Went to Moot where a review of Lilies occurred and serious Cattle Raids planning was covered. I'm committed for troll Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. The exchequer interviews did not happen so I let the baroness know I'd be happy to deal with either candidate and if a decision war reached while I was gone it would be just fine. Back at home I dealt with some of the magazine pile to be ready to sell them at the next rummage in August.

Leofwyna brought home a video, Transformers, which we'd never seen. It was a hoot! Guess we'll have to go see the sequel in the theater for the big screen experience.

TUESDAY

Caught up with computing while Leofwyna slept in, ran a check over to our seneschal, Natalya, for Cattle Raids site fee and mowed.

WEDNESDAY

Today I finally dug out my pile of Rubbermaid storage totes and sorted through my camp bedding and garb. Spent about four hours packing up six of them to take with me. Strangely enough I don't remember taking that many totes previously but I don't think I'm carrying more garments either. I still need to pull together projects for the week and gather up the camping amenities so I can load the van Friday after we close the rummage sale.

Spent the rest of the afternoon putting up the sunshade in front of the garage for the rummage sale. I was running late when I left for Moot. After driving from one corner of town to the opposite corner I was only ten minutes late; not too bad. Mostly we discussed our Lilies responsibilities, including our Gladiator Tourney party and lightly touched on Cattle Raids coming up in August.

THURSDAY

Got up with the sun to set up the outside tables under the sunshade... there's always the shoppers that won't recognize the posted opening time. This annoys the hell out of me and civility comes hard. The weather held nice for the day and I sold lots of little stuff and a few nice pricier bits so the day's total was respectable. This evening I'm frapped and not accomplishing much of anything.

MONDAY

Got back to work on mending the floorcloths this evening and was nearly done with I broke a serger needle so stopped to run for replacements before the store closed. Wasn't sure what size to get so I got one of each available. Back at home I learned neither size worked... darn, I wanted to be done with these floorcloths.

TUESDAY

Went to the bank to make my JAV deposit for the barony and took money out of my account for change at the rummage sale. After eating lunch I dropped a bag of clothes off at the thrift store, dropped a few dozen items at the second consignment shop and dropped off aluminum cans at the recycler. I also stopped and made copies of forms before sending off checks for insurance certificates for Cattle Raids. I stopped in at Husker Sew and Vac and picked up the right size serger needles. Didn't stop at the fabric store to return the others 'cause I left them laying on the dining table. I remembered to go by Ace Hardware and switch out the wrong sized lag nuts for the right size so I'll have a bed at Lilies. It'll be much easier to get up off the air mattress with it raised off the floor. Spent some time with Leofwyna in the garage prepping for the rummage sale and late tonight I finished the floorcloths repair and nearly finished replacing the seats on a pair of metal folding chairs for camp using the canvas from old sunshades. Leofwyna made apricot-oatmeal breakfast cookies and canned brownies for me to take to Lilies... Ymmm!

It's so annoying to type out a good journal entry and then lose it. The thunderstorm was going through Friday night and the system didn't record my entry. Hope it doesn't happen again as there's another storm rolling through tonight too.

THURSDAY

Went out to buy cat food and get lunch. Stopped at a couple thrift stores, no purchase was made this time. I did find a tomato plant but not the brocolli I wanted; four brussel sprouts plants were substituted. Back at home I weeded a couple veggie beds and planted the brussel sprouts. I had borrowed one of those suspended planters from a friend to see if I wanted to use that method in future so I put the tomato plant in that.

Went through the sample books I had kept last fall and discarded another boxful that I'll tdrop off at the Salvation Army. Stripped out two big books of silk samples. We have lots of ideas for projects from these. Leofwyna wants the white pearled piece to make another caul for a friend. I have my eye on a vivid piece for a ME cap and other metalic embroidered pieces for more ME caps for largess. There are enough of the painted on pale colors for a hanging divider for our tent... very decadant! Other's will go into a lovely two-sided comforter.

FRIDAY

After Natalya came by to pick up a check for the site deposit at Cattle Raids I loaded the car with the box of sample books and clothes for the consignment shop. Once I'd gotten my late lunch though I didn't take time to drop that stuff off. Instead headed back home to locate camp gear. Then I hemmed and added a blue border to the linen I had stashed for a Roman peplos to wear to the Gladiator Tourney party at Lilies. I brought the sunshades, floorcloths and an old sunshade into the house. I started taking apart the old sunshade to make carrysacks for camp gear. I also need to mend the big sunshade and floorcloths.

I had decided to wait the full week until Sunday or Monday to mow but when Leofwyna got home from work... Well, I hadn't realized what I was hearing wasn't the neighbor until she was nearly done. I'd planned on preventing her mowing again 'cause of her feet and knees by beating her to the punch but that didn't happen this time. Anyway, I cleaned up the kitchen before going back downstairs to my sunshade deconstruction.

SATURDAY

Turns out Friday and Saturday would have worked out just fine for the rummage sale as the rain only came around midnight; the daytimes were beautiful and sunny. Da-yum! Today I bought up the subject again about doing the sale next week and leaving for Lilies a day or two later. She's much more receptive of the idea now so we'll do that Thursday-Friday and I'll drive down Saturday afternoon. No telling what kind of camp site I'll end up with and figuring out what to do with the car seats and packing staging location while the garage is set up for the rummage sale is going to be extremely interesting.

This afternoon though we took time to hit a few rummage sales and go to UP! in 3D. Turns out we could have saved a little money going to the 2D version. The trailer for Ice Age 3 showed up well in 3D but UP! not so much. UP! was really an original storyline and we both enjoyed it... our new tag line is "Squirrel!"

Stopped for supper at the Chinese Buffet and then back at home I mowed the 'mohawks' in the yard she'd left by mowing in the dark yesterday and then mowed the backyard to finish up for this week. I'll have to fit in mowing next week before I leave. I doubt she'll leave it until I get home again but at least I can prevent her doing it twice. Then I got back to the sunshade deconstruction while we watched Dirty Dancing on TV.

THURSDAY

In addition to continuing the lawn watering protocol I cut out HalfTroll's red linen tunic so I could return the example tunic in time to be worn this weekend at Marshall. Turns out the red linen is not quite enough so much brain exercise was required to come up with a solution to clear with Gyda tonight at FiberArts. I'll dig a blue linen shirt out of the stash and use it for facing and hems on the tunic. I was late leaving home so I scrambled to get Natalya's signature on barony checks and returning a Redbox movie. Stopped only briefly at FiberArts to hand off the old tunic to Gyda and say hi to our newest member, Jessica, and Sash. Finished up at Carlos' with the flyer check and fund transfer form and asked him to have Isabeau call me with information necessary to include on the letter for insurance certificates for fighting and equiestrian at Cattle Raid which will probably get into the mail Saturday.

WEDNESDAY

Took out another load of paper to be recycled and dropped a couple bags of clothing and samples off at the thrift store drop bins. Stopped in at the thrift store that does clothing at 50% on Wednesday and found two cute Jean Nate cosmetic cases for $4 each and a garnet-colored wool sweater vest (already felted)which I'll use for another Viking cap; the silver shank buttons will work on the late period men's breeks I've been making for gold key ($1.50).

There was moot tonight where we had an unusually good turnout. This was followed by a finance committee meeting where we approved a bid for Gathering the Herd in April. A bid for Cattle Raids next August was discussed and sent back to be expanded on. So there will be another finance committee in two weeks at the next moot when we also need to discuss the storage arrangements for the barony. I also reminded the seneschal my warrent runs out September this year and I'd like to be training the replacement during third quarter.

SATURDAY

It was great to wake up, look out and see someone had already shoveled the drive and walks. Wheee!
I was able to move my car and finish that little bit of scooping. I went to take care of today's assignments, purchase and send a birthday card to our 95-year-old Uncle G and deliver a movie CD to Shelly. Then back at home I cleared up the kitchen before heading down to full the wool scraps (.99) I'd found Thursday for Viking hats for largess. I pretested my pattern with sample rejects... it'll work just fine so I made patterns for three sizes and got enough cut for thirteen hats. I also used the smallest pattern on the wool scraps from Murdoch's coat and got that one sewed up... easy-peasy. Leofwyna got into the swing of things by coming up with four long pieces of braid trim. Getting twenty of these hats all together before August shouldn't be too difficult.

SUNDAY

Didn't feel completely rested upon awakening today so we decided to spend the afternoon checking out rummage sales and a couple thrift stores for Leofwyna's glass. Stopped at the hospital for a newspaper then found rummage addresses to check out, also stopped at two Goodwills where I have senior discount. I found a bias cut black stripe linen skirt I'll make 'hose' of and Leofwyna got plenty o' glass. We also found a large pair of slippers depicting boxer dog faces... I'm going to convert them to Halloween masks for us to use this year. We decided to complete the day with a buffet supper at Golden Corral. I got in a little work on the banner and we watched the tape of Olympic closing ceremony.

MONDAY

Was better rested today so I ran errands: made my Cattle Raids deposit, stopped in at the library downtown, bought cat chow and stopped for groceries for us. Leofwyna did supper with leftover pork and sauce from feast plus a noodle cassarole from the freezer and fresh corn and watermelon. Tonight I just poked about in the Internet.

SATURDAY

Woke up at ten to eight to a beautiful day; dressed fast but it was a good thing Carlos and Kat were already there to open troll for me at eight. When troll shut down we had a total of 200 signed up and feast was sold out. Woo-hoo!

During the afternoon I became Sash’s second apprentice, visited with lots of folks and watched the equestrians tilt at rings for awhile. For court there was a high cloud cover and a gentle breeze. Once Volkmar got everyone moved in closer to the thrones and resettled the procession began… their majesties, their highnesses and finally, their excellencies. As everyone bowed each time the row of seven equestrians AND THEIR HORSES bowed too. Viljalhmer sang their excellencies in with a new song which we need to hear again and again so we can learn it too. It was most excellent!

During court Drix was called before the thrones. He gave a moving report/eulogy on the passing of Mikal the Ram, then introduced Dolan who had a new song featuring Mikal’s presence past and future. There were some tears involved and Mikal tokens were passed out.

The Barony called up Aibhilin for an Ancaire, Viljalhmer for an Ancient Aurochs, and Eleanor for an Adharc Or where his excellency thanked Eleanor for being his conscience in A&S.

Prizes were handed out for multitudinous competitions that had happened during the day. Maximilian was called forward for a Torse. Nicolette’s Pelican elevation was lovely and moving. And the sky cleared to a lovely pale blue for the closing processional.

Sat at table with Viljalhmer, Gyda, Sabi, Aibhilin, Dolan and Terry. Eulalia had some great food for feast. I was stuffed before the second remove. Viljalhmer arranged for three singers to entertain: himself, Conna, Gerald and Dolan.

While our guests disbursed to the evening entertainment I helped clear the hall and loaded my car. I squeezed in an evening visit with my new household during a breather.

WEDNESDAY

Went and got a haircut today from the only person I've ever found who can forestall a nasty little cowlick. I don't always go to her 'cause I think it would be good to find someone younger eventually who might be around longer. My usual gal is so often gone visiting grandbabies or helping grown daughters move and it's only a matter of time before she chucks it all over at work. At moot this evening it sounded like everyone was ready for Cattle Raids this weekend so I anticipate a good time for everyone.

THURSDAY

Got it in gear to mow part of the yard... the rest will have to wait. The crabgrass will run amok I fear. Rosa and Kat stopped by for a check for deliveries tomorrow. Had a nice little visit with them about job hunts and gardens. Then pulled things together prepratory for loading tomorrow. Here's hoping the small sunshade will hold up for another event. I'll have to look it over good while it's set up to see where it may need work.

FRIDAY

Will be heading off to Cattle Raids in a moment or two. I start sitting troll at six and I still need to stop at the bank for the cashbox change. I'll be staying over in one of the cabins tonight. I hope to have all kinds of good things to tell about the weekend when I get home.

WEDNESDAY

Up and out this morning for an 11 o'clock oil change. They tell me the ol' car is a good one and didn't have any suggestions for additional work. I LUV Auto 24-hour Repair on Cornhusker. I've found their prices to be reasonable and they don't try to dupe me into extra work. Leofwyna has been going there too and is equally pleased with 'em.

Moot this evening was all about Cattle Raids... Seems like we should be calling it Sheep Raids though with the Scots-English theme this year. I'm pretty thoroughly tied up with troll so I'm being 'specially careful about volunteering for much else.

Got a nice complement from Ducky about my embroidery project... a Celtic animals neckline I'm doing in strong multi colors. I really like the Dover Celtic transfers book for these projects. I already knew Master Gerald wants this but It's mine-mine-mine... It's past time for me to have a new early period linen under tunic to replace the sorry mud-colored cotton one. Eventually I'll remove the embroidered linen from that for another new under tunic... just have to find the right linen to mount them onto.

SATURDAY

Spent the afternoon picking up prescriptions and diet Pepsi from Walgrens and 8 dozen eggs for Cattle Raids from HyVee. I also dallied at Hancocks and JoAnnes where I resisted purchasing anything; I did spend quite some time looking through the new pattern books. When I got home around six found that Leofwyna had been sent home from work this afternoon.

WEDNESDAY

Hey, hey! I've got a job interview tomorrow for a Receptionist/Admin Assistant position at South 48th and Old Cheney, quite a way across town. Since they got my name from Workforce I don't have any details but it's my first interview in this cycle and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Tried to call Mary to have the latest mediocre haircut shaped up but she's not in today, darn it. I'm NOT going to another hair butcher at this point so I'll have to live with what I've got.

Weeded a little in the fenceline flowerbed, ate a quick supper Leofwyna made of fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes, smoked chops and peach cobbler and headed to the library for Moot. We're getting geared up for our Cattle Raids next month. Since I'm Exchequer I'll be busy mostly with troll that day. Finishing off the evening watching the tape of tonight's So You Think You Can Dance. The contestants at this point are all so good there's no choosing between them!
