Sunday I spent a good part of the day loafing but finally got in gear and spent an hour in the community garden trimming the grass along the outside of the fenceline and watering thoroughly.  Want to soften things up for weeding tomorrow.  Harvested one squash and a handful of green beans.
Thursday I ran Leofwyna over to pick up her RAV... hit the library for a talking book for the car... but mostly loafed the day away.  A brief stop at the community garden shows many, many little yellow squash to plan on eating soon.  I harvested one nice sized one to start the season.  At the sewing table I've been putting together upholstery sample silk crazy blocks and cutting them to 12-inch squares to eventually embroider.

June 3-8

We've been home nearly a week and I finally finished journaling the trip and reading all my backlog.  Wednesday we went to social moot and Shelly came in for another round of appointments and stayed three days.  We had rain the first couple days so it was Sunday before the ground was dry enough for me to weed the raised beds.  Tomatoes and potatoes are looking good.  There's some brassica goodness happening but the middle of that bed needs seedlings to fill in and I'm thinking it's too late to find 'em.  Monday I started clearing up the community garden; it all came up except the parsnips.  I've got pole beans, bush beans, winter squash, yellow and pattipan squash, nasturtiums, carrots, cucumber and even five artichokes.  While I was waiting for the ground to dry I hit a few thrift stores... found a glass wasp trap at one of 'em.  Talked again about taking out the north maple tree and sounds like Leofwyna agrees; gotta get a bid on it.   Over the weekend we noticed the AC isn't cooling so Monday I called for service (Wednesday 1-2 pm) and an upgraded estimate if we have to replace it.  At the sewing table I'm piecing up another crazy top for Kronberg using samples that was involved in the flooding while we were gone.  They'd been spread out in the laundry room to dry and I decided there was no point in packing them up again.

I went to Sash's Saturday afternoon to pick Rich's brain regarding the tablet.  Learned that although the email app isn't working I can get to  email via the browser.  Back at home I used the pressure cooker to make Thai beef for supper (I think from now on this recipe only in the crock pot).  At the sewing table I'm binding Child's Play and then finished it Sunday afternoon.  Late Sunday afternoon I went to the community garden and moved several barrowfuls of compost to my planting beds before seeding parsnip, carrot, winter squash, artichoke, pole beans (for dry beans), bush beans, cucumber, yellow summer squash, pattipan squash, and nasturtiums.  And that's DONE!  I'm totally beat so we went to the Chinese buffet for supper.

Another four hours in the community garden today and i'm ready to compost the planting beds and put in seed.  To bad I ran out of time and energy for these last two steps as rain is predicted in the morning.  When I got back to the house Leofwyna and Shelly hustled me out to KFC for supper.

I spent a little under four hours working in the community garden removing grass from the shovel-clods along the north edge and back filling the west and north fencing trench.  OMG, I'm sore and tired, but I have to go back tomorrow and get the other two sides finished so I can get it planted.  At least there isn't the grass to deal with on those two sides so it should go faster.

I got some tidying up done around the house, put away Gold Key, got down camera key, sunshade and rack for the demos.  I'm still working with the tablet and finally making some progress.  But I've only been able to access Facebook.  Trying to get my email is still defeating me.  It's a conspiracy... getting me back on Facebook in spite of my determined persistance.  Oh well.  I got the rest of the fence put up around my community garden plot.  The ground is still a little damp though so I put off turning and weeding and seeding it.
Wednesday I went to my CROPS orientation and then continued on to moot where Gerald lead philosophy night since our usual leader was recovering from a bad reaction to a recent 'procedure' last week.  The discussion was on competitions and judging.  Shelly's back in town for a couple nights and Thursday a dozen of us got together at Valentino's as a 'spirit-llifter' on what would have been her anniversary.  Friday I went shopping for fencing and started on the fence at the community garden.  Madam Robin has re-constructed her nest on the north downspout under the eaves of the garage near my garden again this year.  This location is right near Leofwyna's bedroom window and makes a disturbance every morning with her paeans to the dawn.

Monday I was called out for a ride.  I'm glad I'm able to be available for my friends this way.  Leofwyna dealt with supper this time so I concetrated on fixing the mistake on the silk sample blocks.  Tuesday after cleaning up the kitchen I went out and delivered the bags of books I'd sorted down recently, then took my check to CROP for my community garden.  I was surprised to get a reduced rate upon mentioning being retired with a fixed income and then also got permission to get started ahead of orientation with my fencing and seeding.  Back at home this evening I used my teeny pressure cooker again; this time I did porkchops and cream of chicken soup and it worked perfectly.  At the sewing table I got the flange and snap strip mounted on Leofwyna's camper sheet.  Then I looked for (and found) the tote with Leofwyna's sewing.  I need to make up a couple short sets for her to take on the trip.  I also found a nearly completed tabard for Gold Key so I finished hemming it before heading up to bed.

Friday I finished turning my community plot... I left the clods pretty rough so the weather can can work on it this winter.  I was glad to see lots of happy worms as I was doing my work.  The neighboring plot looked like it was worked over with a tiller.  It was pulverized and I'm nearly certain no worms survived the process.  Saturday I picked up Leofwyna and Morgana at the airport... back home from their cruise around Greece.  They did well together and were bubbling about their experience... and thoroughly exhausted from the long day travelling home.  They'd gotten up and going to the airport 4am Athens time and landed here in Lincoln 7:30pm our time.  After taking Morgana home and getting back to the house, Leofwyna headed to bed about 9pm and slept through past 1pm Sunday.  That was when I let the cats upstairs so KC could wake her up for cuddles.  Sunday afternoon we went out for lunch and then for a drive, just to get out in the pretty day and help keep her awake.  We stopped in at the south Goodwill where she had great luck and carried out a bagful of stuff.  I had some luck too, getting thread and three pint canning jars.  On the way home we meandered 'curbing' and found more broken wood furniture for our mason bee habitat project.  I think she's planning to spread several throughout the neighborhood.  [NOTE:  She brought back a very pretty opal-and-silver-greek-key bracelet for me.]  Tuesday the van is still waiting attention so Leofwyna took the car for errands and to vote.  When she got back I went to vote and pick up rolls to go with Chili for supper.  The chili I canned last month was a success!  Oh, and it's good to have her back home.
Wednesday I headed across town for the fifth wednesday moot.  We had a pretty good turn-out for a simple farble followed by supper at VI.  Thursday I finally hit the community garden plot to turn-over and pluck weeds.  I was only half done when I lost the light so I will HAVE to finish Friday to meet the deadline.
Wednesday Bryan stp... major bummer but water under the bridge, adjustments will be made.  I took in recycling and watered the community garden before getting ready to go to philosophy night  I turned Leofwyna's cookies over to Natalya but I still have my bag of largess as Haldara wasn't there.
Sunday I gave the community garden a thorough wetdown and then around midnight we had rain... a nice strong, thorough rain.  Figures.  It was a nice evening though and I grilled ribeye steaks for supper.  At the sewing table I got the purple/gold top finished, unless when I try it out on a queen-size bed I find it needs another row in one dimension or the other.  It looks better than I had imagined and I know how I want to quilt it.
Wednesday I only got the community garden watered and some tomatoes delivered to Sash before going to moot where final discussions and plans were made for Cattle Raids.  I skipped out on supper this time though. Back at home at the sewing table I'm putting purple/gold pairs together.

Thursday in addition to watering the community garden and the lawn at home I straightened up the house in anticipation of the visit of our masseuse.  Unfortunately she wasn't feeling well today and cancelled.  At the sewing table tonight I assembled purple/gold quads while we watched So You Think You Can Dance and Project Runway.

Sunday Leofwyna and I went to a movie, choosing Guardians of the Galaxy.  It was entertaining enough, but just a little flat.

Monday afternoon I went for the seedlings and planted broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage at the community garden.  Digging through my seed box I also planted peas, basil, bush beans and something[?].  Barely in time for a harvest before an average late frost so I have my fingers crossed.

Tueday got out right away to water my community garden plot. After Leofwyna was up and gone to work I mowed the entire lawn, watered the home veggie beds and started watering the lawn.
Saturday I dug the rest of the potatoes.  I have a full bushel plus about a gallon of 'littles".  Oh my, I ache all over... even my toes ache!.  While I was doing that I spotted a hummingbird moth in the next garden and a morning cloak wafted by and stopped a bit on the fencing.  At the sewing table the Happy blocks are coming together.
Thursday I went and dug up half the potato vines at the community garden bringing home half a bushel of really beautiful red potatoes.  Relatively easy digging and once that's all done the ground is perfectly ready for bassica seedlings next week.  I say relatively easy digging because I spent the evening and all night in some discomfort; I couldn't get comfortable for sleeping most of the night.
Monday afternoon I went to the community garden intending to cut back one of the three rows of potatoes.  It was such a mellow and pretty day I ended up sticking it out and cutting all three rows.  So I ended up very stiff and sore this evening.  The newest sewing table project begun late Sunday is scrappy four-patches for the purple-gold quilt based on a Happy block which I'm calling Castle Quarters.
Saturday I drove some of the first few tomatoes over to Sash so he could enjoy some right away.  I swung by the community garden to water but when I saw how the potato plants were beginning their die-back I decided to start the hardening off right away and skipped the watering there.  Since I have learned the seedlings will become available early in August this will enable me to start the brassicas sooner.  I'm working the Seventh century in the genealogy now.  Sunday we put in a couple hours doing yardwork before heading out to supper and a movie.  Leofwyna treated us to the fancy seats to see Lucy.  What a wonderfully intriguing movie this one is... quite an unusual story line.
Tuesday I went over to the community garden and just cut away at some of the weeds in the general area.  Apparently no one is dealing with this area as the weeds are nearly and tall as me.  I carried three bushels full of chopped weed to the compost pile before called quits.  The bit I've gotten done is only just big enough I could lay down on it; there's lots left for someone else to help with.  At home I'm still working on the genealogy.  Last week I finished the 9th and 10th centuries and commenced on the 8th century this week.
