Jun. 30th, 2009 12:41 pmTUESDAY MORNING
What a wonderful weekend! The weather was friendly the whole time. The temperatures had ameliorated to decent summer ranges with mild to moderate breezes most of the time. Leofwyna and I arrived home before dark Monday evening and took the ice chest and clothing tubs in, leaving the rest of the unloading for me to do this evening. I'll also need to mow the lawn as the jungle is creeping ever nearer the house.
We'd carefully planned our camp to limit some of the load we'd take to something like Lilies but still have some of the lighter and easily packed bling to show off to the family. We reached the perfect balance for comfort and to impress non-SCA folks. One of the main comments by a couple of the 'uncles' was "All that came in that little van?!? We only dressed up the generously sized mundane tent with our two beds, tapestry carpet, iron hook sticks, wooden director's chairs, glass-paned oil lantern, copper basin and brass mirror. Otherwise we had the folding camp table, two ice chests, a few rubbermaid totes, battery lantern, flashlights and tiki torch. You all know how much more can actually go into a van when careful packing is accomplished.
The fixes to my camp bed worked pretty well. Only one middle slat dropped out the once and that during the morning when I sat down to put on my shoes. I think I'll get a couple of those heavy black bungee cords to use instead of the single round, fibre covered one. Eventually I'll probably have to remake the long sides of the bed 'cause that wood is cheap, flaky stuff but at least I'm set for rest of this season.
We camped near North Loup at the Davis Creek Resevoir with our step brother, one of the step sisters with her new hubby and her daughter. Other step family members who preferred not to camp came and went over the three evenings we were there including our step mother, another of the step sisters and various offspring and other extended family I still have trouble keeping track of. We spent the days playing Tough Toss or Tripoly and dipping into the cool, sandy-bottomed lake. By dark we were done grilling supper and creating S-mores around the fire pit.
I arrived home only lightly seared but Leofwyna is well-done!
