Apr. 14th, 2012

Just now I caught up with yesterday's dishes and cleaning up the kitchen.  It;s been a fairly productive day balancing the checkbook, finishing the tax returns and mowing the rest of the lawn (just before dark).  Now I'm ready for more rain to come through for my gardens, grass and trees.

I was pleasantly surprised by the refund I'll be getting from both fed and state; I'll be putting the majority of it in the household account to give Leofwyna a break with the mortgage awhile.  I know she's been feeling a bit stressed by it lately.  I also put checks in the mail for the water heater and this quarter's health insurance.  The report that came this week from the retirement fund looks better due to apparently improved conditions so I'm encouraged that 66 looks doable for 100 percent.  If I could find work I'd hold out for 70 for the larger 168 percent but that doesn't look so likely just now but definitely something to be thinking about.

I noticed the jury I didn't sit in decided for guilty of manslaughter, which is what I'd probably have agreed with from what I've seen of the case.

As part of their 50th anniversary celebration, the journal medieval archaeoloy put its first 50 issues online for free.
With Leofwyna up and off to work I did a six pm walkaround to check downspouts and read the rain gauge.  We've already had two inches of rain... I've made a mental note to clean out the gutter when next the ground dries out enough to hold up the ladder.  I'd also like to find some plastic rain barrels; too late to save spring rain this year but it would be good to do this for the garden.  Several of the potatoes have put up excellent growth suddenly and the row of peonies have doubled their growth again and are covered in buds.  Mmmm, and the lily of the valley is filling the entire yard with fragrance from their little patch by the west sidewalk.

An additional note:  In checking the rain guage Sunday, we had a total of three inches rain with the storms Saturday, Saturday night and early Sunday morning.  Wow!
