Friday

10am... more closet sorting to switch ends then out to lunch.  With Leofwyna started sifting compost for potato and tomato bushels.  Went out to supper at Tandor.  At home took laptop downstairs to work on while watching Stargate until bedtime.

Saturday I got out to move some more compost awhile.  With that and Leofwyna vaccuming leaves we filled the big east bin.  I started moving roughage into the first small east bin so eventually the two small west bins (from which I'm harvesting good dirt) can be taken up and the ground there leveled before we start those from scratch next year.  At the sewing table I started stripping the new cottons I bought this last year.

Wednesday I made a quick run to the library for one computer session and hurried home to be on hand when the tech came.  Turns out they were able to do the fix off-site as the system opened right up.  I've got to remember to deal with this right away instead of procrastinating the way I've been doing.  Went out and continued working the compost piles.  Leofwyna is mowing with the bag and putting chopped leaves in the bin.  We had scribal tonight followed by supper at Tandor.

Sunday after lunch and computer time at the library I returned to sifting compost.  Leofwyna cut out this year's brassicas for me to carry to the Children's Zoo tomorrow.  The big east compost pile is shrinking steadily but not nearly as quickly as I hoped.  Next year's brassica bed will be ready this winter to be seeded sometime in March with brussel sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower.  About five years ago when I accomplished this was the best broccoli harvest I've ever had and I want that sort of success again.  At gaming in the evening we set up for a new adventure under a new dm, Arne.  We haven't started it yet but characters are being developed.  Our usual game under Volkmar started late but was some good play.  I took the lead going up an alternate route with great success and the encounter with a pair of owlbears was well done.  Back at home at the sewing table I'm sewing up mountains majesty blocks.

Thursday after lunch and computer time went home to dig up the rest of the potatoes and started harvesting the compost from the big east bin.  We went to Golden Corral for supper.  Back home at the sewing table I cut and machine sewed the initial seams on six coifs for Halftroll from his old fighter tunic.

Friday after lunch, since the library was closed, returned home to work on the compost sifting awhile.  Made Mom's spagetti for supper although I went amok with the cheese.  Continued sewing Halftroll's coifs up.

Wednesday I loaded up six bushels of compost for the potato beds.  Unloaded four of them, leaving the final two bushels in the car to unload another day. Showered and headed south for busness moot this evening and supper with the gang.

Sunday Leofwyna and I went to check an estate sale for fabric (another craigs list person suggested to us).  Wasn't interested in what was left but we did get a sheet for a quilt back.  We stopped at Sash's with green tomatoes and Leofwyna and he 'went off' on a bunch of musical stuff.  Rich and he have big plans for holiday lights including computer music enhancements.  Back in the van we drove through UNL East Campus looking for a Mason bee habitat I'd seen on their website and found a small one but not the big one we wanted to see.  We did see some birch logs we coveted but behaved ourselves.  We watchd for curbside discards as we went through various neighborhoods and found a small desk that suited.  We loaded that into the van with the shelves that are still in there.  Another curbside pile produced a wreath and babygate. I'll use the gate to support peas in next summer's garden.  After a quick stop at home for shovels and bushel baskets we fetched home some compost from a pile we had access to.  If we can get that settled we want to go back for some more for my raised beds.

Tuesday after buying a bag of seed potatoes I headed over to the community garden, dug three trenches and put in the potatoes.  Now all I have to do over the next few weeks is bring in plenty of sifted compost and some bales of straw to built up the bed for the potatoes to fill in.

Saturday I spent the afternoon at Gwenyth's feast precook for Crown Tourney which is coming up next month.   Sunday was our Baronial A&S and I spent the afternoon there chatting and handsewing coifs.  I learned Morgana is also a Steampunk afficienado and I may try to get an outfit ready to go with her next year... this year is only two weeks away and there's no way to get anything ready in time.  Well, that and the renovation.  We're still spackling and sanding walls and last night I started on the patch in the hole in the wall in the basement stairwell.

I had great plans for yard and garden work this week and the weather just isn't cooperating.  Leofwyna has ordered a neat blower/vacuum that I'll use to deal with the leaves this year.  It will reduce the leaves to 'mulch' and will be great for the compost piles.

Sunday I bought and planted four tomatoe plants, then sifted lots and lots of compost from pile 1 of 3 for the potato bed.  Leofwyna had been put on call so she came out to keep me company and weeded the broccoli.  My veggie beds look so good this year and it's not even May yet.

Monday I got the mower out to the repairman and they called midafternoon so I was able to get it picked back up same day.  I should have gotten out to finish the mowing but... I didn't, no cookie for me.

I've spent time this weekend in the yard digging out dandilions.  Basketsful have been dumped into the compost piles... lots of nice potassium I understnad.  But looking at the yard; can't tell the difference yet.  This makes for sore muscles in legs, shoulders and back.  I'm almost finished in the 14th Century genealogy, and eagerly anticipating the 1940 census dump.

I got a call for jury duty last week so spent Monday downtown.  I was in the top 30 potential jurors for a motor vehicle homicide case (http://journalstar.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/article_861dfa0a-aafc-58df-961b-ce48892af724.html) and it took all day for the attorneys to instruct, question and decide.  i'm ambivalent about not being seated on the jury.  So much to do this spring but even that tiny paycheck would be good.  Oh well, my name wasn't called and I've decided it was because I haven't driven a motorcycle, nor been involved in an accident with a deer.  I was a little surprised how quickly the time passed actually as I was actually pretty engrossed with the process.  Oh, and what a nice judge was seated at the bench!!!   http://beatricedailysun.com/news/local/trial-to-begin-for-heusinkvelt/article_115c09c6-7d3a-11e1-8ade-0019bb2963f4.html

Sunday afternoon I got out and harvested half the first compost pile onto the potato bed, heavy work but very satisfying to be accomplishing this so early in the season.  Leofwyna managed to get the two broken branches off the little elm tree... it seems so brittlle to us we're thiinking the rest willl be coming down too but we'll see.

Wednesday I procrastinated and played on the computer. I did get laundry done though.

Thursday when Leofwyna got up she suggested going looking for garage sales. I'd been planning on mowing but the humidity made it an easy temptation and off we went. Unfortunately it was late in the afternoon already and we only found a couple of 'em so we ended up stopping in a couple antique malls instead.

Friday I started re-building the big compost pile after cutting away the vining plant from the neighbor's yard. I got the whole yard mown with the grasscatcher and mixed the green clippings into the compost as I moved roughage from the tops of the smaller piles. Progress has been made and I'm beat.

Tuesday Joe helped me get the big compost pile shifted and sifted. Was only enough to top off one of the new veggie beds but now I'll be able to put in the seed for the winter hoop bed. I had meant to go back out after a brief rest to mow but I fell asleep; major thunder booming woke me and I rushed to put back the downspouts and put my tools away but the big black clouds moved off southeastward as the sun went down and we didn't get any rain.

THURSDAY

Spent the day in, in my pjs, continuing in the genealogy site.  Later when Leofwyna was up and we were done with supper (chili and cinnamon rolls) we sorted and cleaned out the pantry, bagged up recycle and carried out compostables.  We left some of the older stuff out on the side counter, determined to be using it up in our meals the next couple weeks.

WEDNESDAY

I spent a quiet day on the computer and Internet 'cause I knew once Leofwyna was up we'd be out doing yardwork. She was up early and winterized her roses while I raked and raked. Together we got the leaves from the entire yard moved back to the compost bins and I spread wire fencing over the piles while Leofwyna cut back the peonies. We then treated ourselves with a trip to Valentino's for the buffet.

I've spent time the last couple evenings taking apart the small sunshade and finished that up tonight. I wanted to be able to reuse the cotton webbing off it's edge and found only the two black panels and one of the tan panels damaged. I think I'll disassemble the larger sunshade too and reassemble the best of the panels into a single sunshade and get a few more year's use out of the fabric.

THURSDAY

It being a grey and dreary day, I worked on RUNESTAFF paperwork during the afternoon. I never did get the address situation cleared up but I'll get it dealt with before next month's issue comes out. When Leofwyna got up and finished running her errands and planting her rose bushes she took me out to supper. While we were eating a great, heavy rainstorm rolled through with lots of thundar and lightning... dinner theater!

FRIDAY

Was contacted, finally, by Premiere so that process has begun taking shape. It has been mainly a slow, unproductive day but I'm enjoying it.

SATURDAY

Trolled around for rummage sales and stopped in at one of the Goodwill stores this afternoon, enjoying the beautiful weather. Stopped in at Hancocks for more white thread. Didn't find anything interesting though so returned home for computer and kitty cuddles.

SUNDAY

We spent outside time dealing with bits of yardwork. I turned up the east end of the big east compost pile. Fortunately I did not find any yellow jackets (although one came visiting while I was working and made me a little leery for awhile. I'm glad to report our dead-winter visit digging it up and pouring in boiling water seems to have done the trick.) Anyway, I alternated between mixing up the compost piles and digging out the western-most veggie bed and thoroughly wore myself out. The night ended with pulling out another jigsaw puzzle with Leofwyna.

MONDAY

I made a lunch run, stopped in at Goodwill (Travelling Sale = one normal priced garment then up to four more at $1/ea) where I picked up a great shirt so added in four more 'cutter' items. Back at home I worked awhile on one of the weedy beds trying to get the crabgrass roots removed. What a tangled mess that is. Tonight we finished lastnight's puzzle and blasted through another smaller one.

TUESDAY

I got into the garage awhile this afternoon and started sorting stuff onto the new shelves. The high shelf over the window is just right for the five empty ice chests. The four shelving units Leofwyna picked up at Walmart a couple years ago fit along the north wall, two on either side of the window there, and will hold camping, gardening and grilling things conveniently.

The Halftroll and I got the oldest compost pile emptied and sifted onto the four cleared veggie beds and the compost turned in. I shifted some of the leaves off the top of the neighboring pile into the empty one and with his help got the winter compost bucket dumped over... phew!!! At that it was time to stop and wash off the stink... we called it a day and he went off to find his supper.

THURSDAY

Today I finished moving a compost pile over into the new bin and leveled the ground ready for seeding grass there.  There's still two half piles to finish clearing out but I have to wait for them to dry out a little so I can sift the finished compost for the garden.  Then I started digging out the first of the ten veggie beds.  I'm going to have to get every bit of crabgrass root out and break up the compacted dirt.  There's lots of nice little red worms but obviously it's become too dense for earthworms.  The compost will remedy that.  I hope to get seven beds done this fall and take out the west two which have started breaking down at the corners.  I won't do anything to the southeast bed as Leofwyna has herbs in there and is hoping to over-winter some of these.

I cleaned up this evening and went downtown for the planning session for next Monday's demo.  Natalya, Vasilla and Jane also showed up so we'll be able to direct the others in our roles Monday.  This is certainly going to be a lot of fun as long as the future bride says yes.  I'm remember being at Shakespeare on the Green in Omaha a few years back when a young man had arranged for a plane towing a banner, Marry me!  We weren't close enough to hear anything but the pantomime was clear enough.  She said no and I think everyone there was hurting for him.  Apparently he didn't know her as well as he thought he did.  I don't think that's the case in this instance but we haven't met her yet either.  Anyway, I'm going to anticipate a good time Monday.

MONDAY/TUESDAY

Spent both days doing yardwork, mostly moving compost and cleaning out front flower beds.  Ran a bucket of iris corms over to Sash Monday.  Spent a couple hours both days at CYT for my computer fix and some job search time.  Upon learning Asa and Calien had room for a passenger to Standing Stones next weekend for the Charlemagne event I decided to go; Leofwyna encouraged this thought so I was encouraged to follow through on that decision.

WEDNESDAY

Went to CYT to email Asa to confirm plans and Maglist to beg help on the monitor situation.  An immediate response from Dwolm and Owain was most gratifying.  Arranged with Owain to pick up a monitor from him at archery practice this evening.  Got back home in time to complete 3rd quarter report so I could get Natalya's signatures on it at moot tonight.  Also at moot arrangements were completed with Ray for a demo to facilitate his proposal next Monday.  We're having a rehearsal tomorrow night.

After moot Leofwyna and I joined Isadora at Noodles for supper, then we stopped at archery practice to pick up the monitor from Owain.  We were very pleased when we got home, plugged it in and accessed our systems straight away.   Rah us!
