Monday we finished loading up and were headed out of town around 3pm.  We'd tried for noon or one but as ever final preparations took longer than thought of.  Arriving at camp around seven we scrambled to get the tent up before we lost the light, then paused for supper.  The rest of the unloading and bedmaking occured by torch and lantern light.  As for bedmaking, this time it was my siderails that were forgotten at home so I made up my bed on the ground this time.  With the bed slats and folded up sunshade under the air mattress my bed stayed comfortably warm and safe from punctures.

Tuesday we took the shortest of the four hiking trails and found our stamina in better shape than expected.  I was telling Leofwyna my favorite OZ story during the middle third of it.  I simply don't understand how she missed out on those stories.  She made us grilled potato pockets and thick rib eye steaks for supper... yummy!!!

Wednesday we went into Kansas City and hit a couple SAVERS and a scrapbooking store.  Back at camp I built up our second campfire for a good bed of coals 'cause supper was beans and hotdogs to be cooked over the fire.

We took an easy day Thursday knowing Friday would be rough, getting up promptly, loading up and getting back to Lincoln in case Leofwyna had to work.  Our hopes were that she'll be put on call but we had to have her in town.  By mid afternoon it was clear it was going to rain and after some discussion we decided to load up dry and head home so she could get turned around and sleep Friday.  Loading was fast, frenzied and finished just as the first rain came.  That makes twice inside a week for me... whew!!!  Rain was a huge gully-washer as we pulled up the curving road away from camp and saw a lovely rainbow before pulling onto the Interstate.  We pulled in at home around midnight, unloaded only food and pillows, and it wasn't long until I went to bed while Leofwyna stayed up as long as possible.
