May Day...
May. 2nd, 2011 01:20 pmThis year I got my spring basket on May Day instead of Easter. Leofwyna kinda forgot when Easter landed and needed to get the candy 'distributed'; I thought her solution was genius actually. I liked recognizing May Day with a basket. And on that subject, kinda, bunnies are legion all over town!
Although I hadn't gotten myself very organized for it ahead of time I did get up this morning and load the car, shop for the entree and get to Herdmaster in time to plug in the crock pot (stew beef, sweet potatoes, onion, apricots, tomato, salt, cumen, ginger, cayenne, cinnamon) and join the fun. We had beautiful weather and a good turnout. Killian won the tournament, Yay Killian! Chiara was given the herd-driver whip. Halftroll received the Espiritu this year. And during feast Will won the birthday cake competition with his pumpkin pie-chocolate, apple pie-white layer cake.
Aside from the April showers, weather has been mild and the grass growing fast enough I've mowed twice already this year. No possible way to wait until May which is what I usually do. I've already gotten a few radishes from the garden for Leofwyna and I bought a four-pack of broccoli to fill in gaps in the broccoli seedlings. We'll start harvesting lettuce and pinach soon. Three of the four potatoes are peeking through.
Maggie and Cassie aren't civil yet. Maggie wants to play, Cassies hasses and growls, and when Cassie naps on a lap or the ottoman, Maggie does the 'whack-a-mole' on her just like a kid sister teasing which does nothing to help the situation.
Looking back over the past two weeks I can see I'm not accomplishing much more than continuing to update my genealogy. I've wasted some nice weather in the garden (I really need to rebuild those beds) and wasted some stay indoors weather for other getting on top of rummage things but oh well, there's always future weekdays, most weekends are spoken for during the foreseeable future.
